248 – Perforation

Concrete is usually heavy looking and bulky. So the idea was to do the exact opposite by creating a light and organic spiral staircase, which is not only an architectural but also sculptural element of the room it is situated in.
The staircase consists of thirteen stripes made out of textile concrete which is reinforced by Glass Fibre. Each stripe is 30 mm thick and forms one step and the construction on which the step sits. The different stripes are seamlessly connected for stability.
The smooth surface of the textile-reinforced concrete has a delicate look and the perforated structure intensifies the lightness and creates a shadow play when the staircase is illuminated.
