The Stairs Design Awards competition is organised by the PBM Group.
The Stairs Design Awards, organized by Groupe PBM, celebrates innovation and bold architectural creativity. This competition invites designers to envision staircases that transcend their mere utilitarian function, becoming centerpieces at the heart of architecture.
Beyond the technical aspects, it’s about designing a staircase with a strong identity, a true manifesto of creativity. Participants are encouraged to push the boundaries of design while showcasing their unique vision.
This is a unique opportunity to turn the staircase into a symbol, an architectural signature.
COMPETITION RULES
Unleash your creativity and design a bold and innovative staircase. Concrete, as the key material, must be prominently featured, but it can be combined with other materials to enhance the project. The staircase must fully serve its practical purpose, comply with current accessibility standards, and remain technically feasible.
REGISTRATION
Participation in the competition is completely free and open to all architecture students in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and Spain.
Rules for participation
Candidates can compete individually or form a team of up to three members, with each member required to be a student and hold a valid student ID.
Registration and submission of projects must be done exclusively online through the dedicated platform.
Content of the submission file:
- Main image of the staircase in its entirety and in context (JPEG format)
- Supplementary images (JPEG format)
- Project presentation file (PDF format) including: a project description (artistic concept, technical performance, technical details, rendering details)
- One A2-sized board with a plan of the staircase in its environment
- One A2-sized board, portrait format, with an elevation of the staircase
- An IFC file (less than 2 MB)
KEY DATES
- October 7, 2024: registration opens (12:00 PM)
- January 31, 2025: registration deadline (12:00 PM)
- March 11, 2025: project submission deadline (12:00 PM)
- March 31, 2025: announcement of the 9 finalist projects
- From April 2 to April 30, 2025: public vote (12:00 PM)
- May 15, 2025: Awards ceremony
